(gratuitous pics of my kid to follow)

At the zoo with our friends:

Here she is saying, “go drink water, goat!”  Minutes later she crouched down and had a staring contest with the goat, but she will, under no circumstances, touch the goats.

To be really honest, I’m not into touching the goats, either.

She did love the bears at the zoo, though.  Not quite as sure about the lion that walked towards her.  She’s been looking at pictures of some of the various zoo trips we’ve taken (and especially the bear-related photos) and saying, “Lilly June go to zoo sometime?”  Of course, Lilly.  We’ll go back to the zoo sometime.

Also, playgrounds:

Several of our playdates (or just mama-Lilly dates) involve heading to playgrounds, and I’m always surprised when she climbs up like a big kid and then slides down like a big kid.  I think I expect her to need my help climbing, but she never does.

On this particular playground day, we had a picnic lunch.  Picnic lunches are also big hits around here.

Our days seem to go better if we have at least 1-2 field trips planned per week.  This may be more for my sanity and need to leave the house than it is for hers.  She’s typically awake from 8-1 or 2, and for some crazy reason we usually hit this tired/crabby slump about 9:30/10 on days when we are home.  It’s brief and can be quickly solved with a snack and books or bear show, but if we leave the house before the slump, we seem to avoid it altogether.  Strange, no?  So I try to get us up and going to the park, to the pool (we try to swim at least once/week), or to other fun places/playdates.  We either picnic or make it home before lunch, and then sometimes we nap around 1 or 2, but I’m getting the feeling that Lilly is trying to quit napping on me.  Which is really too bad because I’ve been seriously enjoying our nap time…

Is this an announcement? *wink wink*

PS my sage advice is to enjoy shopping at Target by yourself and sleeping until noon on the weekends, and for sure flaunt your skinny little self in a bikini before you get pregnant. i think i miss those things the most. that and eating junk food without hiding.
