July Goals

July 1, 2013

Here’s what we did (or actually didn’t do!) in June:

    • GUEST/BABY’S ROOM: find awesome fabrics for the room, start creating baby’s quilt, sew curtains, find/create artwork (I made something to hang over the crib, but more is needed), paint/stain bed frame, look for furniture: dresser, rocking chair, and side table
    • LIVING ROOM: continue search for *perfect* chair and ottoman
    • OUTSIDE: weed & mulch the front yard (the weeds were picked… but the crazy amounts of rain we’re getting have caused more to grow! boo!), divide irises after they bloom & replant in the front yard, divide & replant daffodils, weed hosta garden near driveway split (mostly done), clean up front entrance to driveway, clean up herb garden & mulch, organize & clean out garden shed, draw up plans to repair beam in garage & begin construction
    • LILLY’S ROOM: buy closet organizers, get rid of the dresser in her room, finish building Lil’s birthday present — a play kitchen! (almost done!), sew an sink apron, potholders & apron for Lil, and decorative hand towels for new play kitchen, frame & hang cousin’s animal print
    • KITCHEN: finalize plans, empty cabinets of less frequently used items, purchase cabinets/countertops/sink/new windows/floors
    • SUPERAWESOMEFUNPROJECTS: finish sewing denim picnic quilt, finish our wedding photo album

We weren’t quite as productive as last month. It’s disappointing since we were totally on a roll in May… but, given that I’m supposed to be taking it easy because of this placenta previa ordeal, and that crazy amounts of rain have kept us inside and caused us to spend quite a bit of time cleaning/trying to dry basement carpets, we’ll just say that it is what it is and try to make the best of it.

I was also bummed to cancel BOTH trips that we had planned for the summer. It was going to be some awesome family time, but it seemed like we shouldn’t risk the possibility of massive bleeding or bedrest/having a premature baby in an airplane or some random hospital far from home. I hate that we are missing fun times with our families, but again, it is what it is. We’ll just keep trying to make the best of it.

I did manage to get two things crossed off of my pre-baby list that weren’t on my June goals. First, I cleaned every. single. inch. of my car, including the disgusting full-of-food toddler car seat. It looks amazing.

Second, I finished a photo album for Lil that I’d been meaning to make for a looooong time. I wanted her to have a photo album that she could look at whenever she wanted, one with pictures of family since we live so far from them. (In posting this, I realized that one very important family member is missing but it’s too late to cancel the book.  Total bummer… perhaps there will be a second printing of this book, complete with ALL family members.  Sigh.)  She’s also getting more interested in letters and singing the ABCs, so I thought I’d capitalize on that and make an alphabet book. I’m really happy with how it turned out, and I can’t wait to get the actual printed copy!

Since we also discovered water in the basement on Friday, we ended up spending a bit of time down there over the weekend, sucking water out of carpet and getting rid of the nasty old couch left by the previous homeowners in the basement. Jason had to sawzall the couch to get it out of the basement.

And it was a demo-licious weekend since J also ripped out some of the cabinets in the kitchen. Next, he’ll destroy the closet behind the fridge, and then we’ll call in the pros to put her all back together. I’d normally be up for DIYing it, but I’m technically supposed to be taking it easy and bedrest or the baby could come at any time and all of that.  (BUT OHMYGOSH do I ever want to take a sledgehammer to those walls.)

So anyways, here are some July goals:

  • GUEST/BABY’S ROOM: find awesome fabrics for the room, start creating baby’s quilt, sew curtains, find/create artwork for over the bed, finish the hanging artwork in baby’s room, hang shelves, create play area, paint/stain bed frame, look for a comfy rocking chair, buy closet organizers & fill/organize baby things, move small dresser upstairs to
  • LIVING ROOM: continue search for *perfect* chair and ottoman
  • OUTSIDE: divide & replant daffodils, weed hosta garden near driveway split (mostly done), clean up front entrance to driveway, clean up herb garden & mulch, organize & clean out garden shed, put up fence around vegetable garden, add stone to area between beds in veggie garden
  • LILLY’S ROOM: buy closet organizers, move Lil’s dresser to basement, finish building Lil’s birthday present — a play kitchen!, sew potholders and decorative hand towels for new play kitchen, hang cousin’s animal print
  • KITCHEN: finish demoing the closet in the kitchen, purchase cabinets/countertops/sink/new windows
  • BASEMENT: rip up nasty stinky wet carpet in the weight room, organize craft supplies into Lil’s old dresser & purge whatever doesn’t fit
  • SUPERAWESOMEFUNPROJECTS: finish our wedding photo album, celebrate Lilly’s SECOND birthday

I’m hoping we’ll be a little more successful in completing goals this month. Jason is going to take a few days off to get some of these projects going, and to spend some super-fun together time since this was supposed to be a super-fun vacation at the Jersey shore week.

Wow – if that is “taking it easy” I wouldn’t want to see the alternatives

Don’t worry if it ain’t perfect – the baby won’t mind, and these last few months of just you and Lily are precious…..when the new member arrives it’s all going to change!

That book is awesome! I may have to copy that idea….
    Take it easy, my friend!

Wow! I would say your month was VERY successful.

We have a similar book and Henry adores it. I think I may resurrect it each year as he grows.

We’re in the middle of a kitchen remodel too. It started April 13 and it’s still going. But we’ve been taking it easy for the last week or so. We’re doing it ourselves and that’s why it’s taking so long. Hard to do when we both work, ya know?

You can check out our work on the kitchen on my blog 🙂

I’ve checked out the pics and it’s going to be stunning! We would definitely DIY this if we didn’t have the toddler & another one on the way! I think we could have done at least 90% of it without hiring out, but with the time crunch and Jason working full time and me being unable to lift anything, we decided to do the demo and leave the rest to the pros!
