back, thanks to a 1/2 mile of cable

July 19, 2009

Eek!  Apologies for my long and unannounced departure from the blog.  As it turns out, getting internet access in the country is not quite as easy as it was in the city.  As in, it involved 3 weeks of desparation (on my part – what would I do without the internet?), 2 men with shovels, and 1/2 mile of cable running from my house to the street.  Then, there was another guy involved, because the men with shovels just dig, they do not set up, and then there was a trip to Best Buy and a very. patient. husband. who spent hours trying to get a better wireless signal to our office. Phew.

The moral of the story is that obtaining internet access this far from civilization is not as easy as it seems.

I missed the internet.

Because?  If we do home improvement projects and there’s no way to show them off, did they really happen?  Kind of like the whole tree-falling-in-the-forest phenomenon.

Time to go harass my husband to do some work around here today, but I promise to be back this week with house updates, summer vacation plans, and pictures from last weekend’s family reunion!

What kind of connection did you end up getting? Is it Charter/Comcast, or DSL from the phone company? Or, did you get satellite? I’m on a 2 lane highway and I still can’t get cable internet. It’s either dial up or satellite. When I get back there full time it will be satellite.

We ended up with Comcast! The previous owner had dish network, but we randomly discovered that Comcast recently bought out the small cable company that used to run this area. Good news for us! I hope you’re able to find a good connection also!
