a visit from Lil’s cousins

The day after we returned from our Minnesota adventures, Lil’s cousins (and their parents) showed up at our house for a visit!  We had a really nice time with family, despite the cool temperatures and rain that plotted against us for most of the weekend.

The weekend marked quite a few firsts for Lilly.

First princess ballerina dress up play.

First first birthday celebration.

First trip to the local (free!) children’s museum.

First trip to the playground.

First time she used a scream to get our attention.

First time she showed any interest in climbing stairs.

She mastered the stairs the same day she first tried climbing them.  Time to get a safety gate?

First trip down a slide.

First mud pit experience.

Lil wasn’t convinced.  But her older cousins seemed to love playing in the mud pit, so I think we’ll store this activity for later in the summer.

Lil also returned to eating solids after almost completely quitting solids for the previous two weeks.  When she’s sick, she just wants to nurse.  I can’t really blame her… who wants to eat solid foods when they’ve got a cold/sore throat?  On the other hand, I’m not interested in nursing her 12 times a day like I did when she was a newborn.

It was really good to get some time with the kids and their parents in before they move to California later this summer.  We won’t see them again until Christmas!  I can’t even imagine what new tricks Lilly will have to impress them in December!
