when one project becomes two…
… I get a) annoyed because that makes project one take even longer, b) crabby because the house is even MORE of a disaster than it would be if we were only doing one project, c) happy because I got a newly-organized closet out of the deal, d) all of the above.
(Are you so proud of me thinking like a real college professor? Just wait until we get to the essay section of the exam…)
Anyways. Our pantry/closet was officially a disaster. There was nothing in the closet when we moved in except the pegboard & hooks. We immediately bought a cheap ikea shelf for the closet, thinking that the depth of the shelves would allow us to store lots of stuff. And it did. But it was always a pain to get to the back of the shelf, and before we knew it, the entire closet was a disaster. It was dark and nasty – the light was broken – and no one could find anything. Except the aprons. I’ve got those covered.
As we remodeled our 1/2 bath, we discovered that we were going to have to pull out the shelves to get to some electrical wiring in the wall between the closet and the 1/2 bath.
So one project became two: now we decided we should tackle both the bathroom AND the closet.
I painted the walls white using Killz primer that we already had on hand. Jason hung up shelves using brackets that we already had and made a little recycling cart on wheels. He also installed a new light fixture, which is super-awesome because now we can actually see what we’re looking for. After painting the floor black and covering with 3 layers of polyrethane, I put the things that we don’t use frequently in a closet in the basement, and put everything else back into the closet.
Much better!
And yes, we do need 5 large boxes of Honey Nut Cheerios. My husband requires it.
Yay for spring cleaning! And now it’s your turn to chime in: anyone else find themselves engaging in a bit of spring cleaning? Or maybe spring celebrating? It’s going to be 70 and sunny here today… definitely time to celebrate…

The closet is SO much better!!
We painted our bedroom this weekend, so instead of just moving the dresser, I went through it and got rid of all the clothes that don’t fit or I don’t ever use and I’m headed to the thrift store today to drop them off (and possibly procur another pair of workout pants; they give you a big discount if you bring stuff in
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one OCD about Honey Nut Cheerios…
It looks great! And I totally understand the need for the Honey Nut Cheerios…I’m addicted, too!
Your closet looks great! Around here, every project mutates into several.
Yay for the spring-cleaned cupboard – well it’s only 7 degrees celsius – yes 7 degrees woohoo Spring must be here!!! Actually the last few days we’ve had snow so can’t complain that today the sun is shining, albeit a VERY cold one.
Just cleaned the living room top to bottom, put a non-slip backing under rug as it was driving me nuts moving about. Thinking about washing the windows which really should have done first but the thought of hanging out of the window in the cold put me off.
Back to work – here I come kitchen.
spring cleaning! I got a whole house that needs it. Are you out for hire? We may sell the house, so come put your name on what you might want! I can’t even think of what to do with all that stuff.
Wow, nice closet. Where did you get the shelves from? I LOVE to spring clean and can’t wait to move to our new house! It will be like Christmas unearthing boxes that I packed away months ago…. or maybe it will be a let down, and I will need to shop for new things.
You are one handy lady. BTW, coming to visit your bro soon? We could catch up in Nfld.
Well DONE!!! AMAZING! It looks so much better
